This panel will bring together AVA interns to share their experiences, insights, and lessons learned throughout their internships. The discussion will explore the transition from academic research to community-based work, moving knowledge into action, mentorship, and the challenges and opportunities of working within community agencies.

Nkechinyere Chinedu-Asogwa (She/Her): Research Assistant, CHILD Studies Lab, University of Calgary; Fund Development Manager, Africa Centre; Researcher specializing in family and community well-being, resilience, violence prevention, and social policy impacts on vulnerable populations.
Nikita Mitra (She/Her): Gender, Sexuality & Women’s Studies Researcher and Communications Professional; Researcher specializing in the gendered impacts of climate change, healthcare marginalization, and stigma, with a focus on women and marginalized communities in the Global South.
Seto Olayomi (She/Her): Academic Researcher and Writer specializing in Sociology, gender-based violence (GBV), equity, and social policy; Researcher applying decolonial and culturally grounded frameworks to develop community-centered approaches to GBV prevention and response; Community Advocate with experience supporting women and families through community-based research, programming, and services.
Cheryl Trask (She/Her): PhD Student in Applied Social Psychology, University of Saskatchewan; AVA Intern with Family Service Saskatoon; Researcher specializing in recovery following intimate partner violence and the social, relational, and institutional factors shaping women’s healing trajectories.
