Adverse childhood experiences and gender-based violence are common among women with breast cancer and affect engagement with care. Drawing on Canadian women’s own accounts and national survey data, Cara Davidson’s doctoral research explores how trauma shapes experiences of breast cancer care and how trauma- and violence-informed care could improve breast oncology.
About the Speaker
Cara Davidson is completing her PhD in Health and Rehabilitation Sciences at Western University, supervised by Dr. Tara Mantler. Her doctoral research explores how trauma and violence across the lifecourse shape women’s experiences of breast cancer care, and how trauma- and violence-informed care can improve outcomes. This work is supported by the Ontario Graduate and Canada Graduate Scholarships.
In Fall 2026, Cara begins a postdoctoral fellowship in Western’s Faculty of Nursing with Dr. Kim Jackson, supported by the 2026 Ontario Women’s Health Scholar Award. She will develop and test trauma- and violence-informed clinical practice guidelines for breast cancer. Her aim is to improve breast cancer care for women affected by trauma and violence.
