The FREDA Centre’s 30th Anniversary Celebration; May 10th from 1:00-2:00pm PST/4:00-5:00pm EST

The FREDA Centre’s 30th anniversary celebration is taking place this Friday! We hope that you can join us virtually for Dr. Emma Cunliffe’s keynote on May 10th from 1:00-2:00pm PST/4:00-5:00pm EST.

Keynote – Dr. Emma Cunliffe, Expertise, myths and stereotypes in family law proceedings

Dr. Emma Cunliffe is a Professor in the Allard School of Law at UBC. Dr. Cunliffe studies how courts decide the facts of contested cases. She is especially interested in expert evidence, the operation of implicit bias, and legal processes regarding gendered and racialized violence, particularly those regarding Indigenous peoples. She also studies examples of legal processes in which such discriminatory beliefs are successfully countered. Her work around what has been successful is of relevance for both community practitioners, who may have to make decisions themselves in such situations, and legal practitioners as well.
