Girls’, Women’s & Gender-Diverse People’s Engagement Committee (GWGDPEC)
The Girls’, Women’s and Gender-Diverse People’s Engagement Committee (GWGDPEC) aims to provide guidance and oversight to AVA programs and activities to ensure that diverse patient1 perspectives are represented. Members include self-identifying women, girls and gender-diverse individuals from across Canada who bring expertise and knowledge through lived experience, exposure, or awareness of being a girl/woman2 exposed to adverse childhood experiences, especially violence as well as growing expertise in patient engagement. Committee members meet quarterly and assist with tasks such as reviewing AVA Online course content and reviewing AVA documents, materials and processes related to AVA programs, activities and opportunities, sharing relevant experiences and expertise as diverse patient partners.
1 The Canadian Institutes of Health Research define the term patient as an overarching term inclusive of individuals with personal experience of a health issue and informal caregivers, including family and friends.
2 The term “girl/woman” refers to both cis, trans, and gender diverse individuals who are at risk of or who have lived experience with violence, adversity, and disadvantage related to gender identity and expression.
