Join us on Wednesday, January 14th, as the AVA Webinar Series presents Violence Prevention as a Public Health Imperative for South Asian Young Women, featuring Dr. Alishau Diebold from Mount Royal University.
Wednesday, January 14th, 2026
12 – 1:30pm MST
Join us for a webinar exploring approaches to youth violence and radicalization prevention in Canada through a public health lens.
Across Canada’s cities, young women stand at the crossroads of safety and silence. As violence and radicalization constitute escalating polycrisis in Canada, South Asian women aged 18–25 in Canada experience distinct forms of vulnerability. Without culturally responsive and gender-sensitive policy interventions, these young women face heightened risks of victimization, re-traumatization, and criminalization. This project advances a policy analysis reframing violence and radicalization within interconnected determinants of health rather than incidents warranting substantive security or justice involvement.
This webinar will respond to key questions about current policies, offer opportunities to re-design public health policies to advance violence prevention imperatives, and share lessons learned from broader international frameworks. Participants will leave with evidence-based recommendations to strengthen public health frameworks, practical tools for community organizations, and directions for future research.
