About the Presenters:
Dr. Nicole Letourneau, PhD RN FCAHS FAAN FCAN FRSC
Dr. Nicole Letourneau is a Professor and Assistant Dean in the Faculty of Nursing and Cumming School of Medicine, University of Calgary where she holds the Research Excellence Chair in Parent and Child Health. She is Scientific Director of the Alliance against Violence and Adversity (AVA) Health Research Training Platform and Women’s and Girls’ Health Hub, funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR). She is Principal Investigator of the Child Health Implementation and Longitudinal Development (CHILD) Studies Program, examining parenting, genetics, and child mental health/development in the context of maternal depression, family violence and other stressors. She is the creator of the Attachment and Child Health (ATTACH™) Parenting Program, now scaling in Canada, Denmark, Brazil, and France, and named a Frontiers of Innovation project by the Harvard Center on the Developing Child for its effectiveness. She also leads the APrON cohort study of more than 2000 Alberta-born youth and their families, followed since prenatal life. As Principal Investigator, she currently holds more than $6 million in CIHR funding and has attained $80 million research funding over her career. She has published nearly 300 peer-reviewed papers and three books including Scientific Parenting: What Science Reveals About Parental Influence (2013) and What Kind of Parent Am I? (2018). She has received many prestigious national and international honours for her contributions to child and family health. These include inductions into the Canadian and American Academies of Nursing, and the Royal Society of Canada and acceptance of the Jeanne Mance Award from the Canadian Nurses Association. She is the world’s most followed nursing professor on X.
Dr. Kharah Ross
Dr. Kharah Ross is a health psychologist and researcher specializing in maternal-child health and psychoneuroimmunology, which is the study of the relationship between psychosocial factors such as stress or relationship quality and physiology, especially immune activity. Kharah’s research interests also include engaging with community organizations to support program evaluation efforts and increase community-based research capacity to improve impacts to at risk or vulnerable women and children. Kharah holds a PhD in Psychology from Northwestern University, a Master’s in Psychology from the University of British Columbia and Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology and Biological Sciences from the University of Calgary. Kharah is an Associate Professor at Athabasca University, is an adjunct professor in the Department of Psychology at the University of Calgary, has served as Chair of the Centre for Social Sciences at Athabasca University, and is Athabasca University’s Scientific Director for One Child, Every Child. Within AVA, Kharah has participated in the Triadic Mentorship Program as an Academic Mentor and has led the design and implementation of the courses, training modules and micro credentialing program offered by AVA Online.
